SAN FRANCISCO | Tue Oct 15, 2013 4:09pm EDT

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Intel Corp posted third-quarter net earnings of $2.95 billion, or 58 cents a share, compared to $2.97 billion, or 58 cents share, in the year-ago quarter as the chipmaker struggled to make inroads into tablets and smartphones while its core personal computer market continued to struggle.

Revenue was $13.48 billion, compared with $13.46 billion in the year-ago quarter, it said in a statement on Tuesday. Analysts had expected $13.46 billion, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
